Custom Residential

Residential Steel Portfolio

San Diego residential architecture leans on steel more than most markets, because the terrain and the views leave no other option.

About the project

Our residential portfolio runs from single beam remodels through full custom homes with extensive structural steel. The common thread is a design intention that conventional framing cannot deliver, whether that is a fifty foot span, a cantilevered deck over a canyon or a wall of glass facing the ocean.

The structural scope typically includes moment frames, long span beams, transfer members, cantilever supports, posts and hangers, and the hardware that connects steel into wood or concrete construction.

A large portion of this work is also visible. Exposed beams and columns, feature stairs, glass and cable railing systems and steel window and door framing all carry finish expectations that concealed structure does not.

Conditions that shaped the work

  • Steep and narrow sites with limited crane positions
  • Member sizes and splices planned around site access
  • Exposed steel requiring finish quality throughout
  • Coordination with builders, architects and engineers
