Miscellaneous metals, mezzanines and equipment platforms
Specification section 05 50 00 is where projects quietly leak money. Dozens of small items, each too minor to bid separately, adding up to a scope that ends up unassigned. We carry it.
The scope everyone forgets to buy
Miscellaneous metals is the least glamorous line on a steel bid and one of the most consequential. Lintels, embeds, angle frames, bollards, trench frames and covers, pipe supports, roof screens, ladders, guards and dozens of similar items appear across the drawings without ever being collected into a single obvious package.
When nobody buys it, those items show up as change orders during construction at the worst possible moment. We read the whole set, collect the miscellaneous metals scope explicitly and price it, so you know at buyout what is covered and what is not.
Mezzanines and equipment platforms
Industrial and warehouse projects across San Diego County increasingly need added floor area, equipment support and access without expanding the building envelope. Structural mezzanines, storage platforms, equipment dunnage and process support structures deliver that.
These structures carry real design consequences. Live load, seismic bracing, connection to the existing structure, egress requirements, guardrail and stair geometry and fire protection all apply. We fabricate to the engineered design and coordinate the details that keep the installation approvable, not just buildable.
Access structures
Catwalks, crossovers, ladders with cages, roof access, service platforms and maintenance walkways keep facility personnel safe in places they must reach regularly. Geometry, guarding, grating selection, load rating and attachment all follow code requirements that inspectors do check.

Details worth confirming before you buy
| Item | How we handle it |
|---|---|
| Typical mezzanine framing | Wide flange or HSS columns and beams with bar joist or beam infill |
| Decking options | Composite deck, form deck with concrete fill, bar grating or checker plate |
| Guarding | Code compliant guardrail height, loading and opening limits with toe boards where required |
| Access | Egress stairs, ships ladders or fixed ladders with cages, per occupancy requirements |
| Finishes | Shop primer, industrial coatings or hot dip galvanizing for wash down and exterior use |
| Coordination | Sprinkler, lighting, electrical and mechanical routing reviewed before fabrication |
Requirements vary by jurisdiction, occupancy and specification. We confirm the governing criteria with your design team rather than assuming.
About miscellaneous metals and mezzanines
Do you provide engineering for a mezzanine?
We fabricate and install to an engineered design. If your project does not yet have one, we can coordinate with a licensed structural engineer to produce a design and the calculations required for permit.
Can a mezzanine be installed in an operating facility?
Yes, and most of them are. We plan phasing, containment, protected access and off hours work so the facility can keep running. Tell us the operating constraints at bid time so the schedule reflects them.
Is miscellaneous metals included in your structural bid automatically?
Only if we scope it, which is why we list inclusions and exclusions explicitly. Tell us you want section 05 50 00 covered and we will price the whole thing rather than leaving pieces of it to be discovered later.
